Laurence Leland Brown

Brown, Laurence “Leland” - 90, of Summerville, formerly of Kempt Shore, Hants County passed on June 27, 2020 at his home surrounded by family. Born in Bramber on Nov. 3, 1929, he was the eldest son of the Late George Laurence and Bessie Everetta (Harvie) Brown. Leland was a hard worker, he began the first of his many careers working in the woods with his father, then at Dresser Minerals in Walton. Lee moved on to the Green Lantern Restaurant in Halifax, and he next worked for Fairley & Stephens, Dartmouth, where he earned his papers as a licensed mechanic. He was owner-operator of Brown’s Texaco in Summerville for many years, eventually driving school bus, making sure students got to and from school safely (and usually with a smile). He was a jokester, an exceptional dancer, a builder of things, as well as an avid hunter, trapper, woodsman, fisherman and Past Master of Shore Lodge # 177. He will be missed by daughter Karen (Stephen) Rick of Summerville, granddaughter Tammarrah Hanson (Jason Smith) of Quesnel, BC, grandson Quinn (Wendy) Rick of Newport Corner, granddaughter Erin Rick-Brown (Craig Brown), Summerville, his Greats Chad (Sarah), Sam, Colt, Haley, Brody, Carlee, Mark, one great-great, Tennyson, his only sister Marion Drysdale of Herring Cove, many cousins, nieces, nephews and his much-loved four-legged traveling companion JJ. Besides his parents Leland is predeceased by the love of his life of almost 70 years, Frances (Mosher), his brother Oran, and sister-in-law Katherine. Cremation has taken place. A power-point service will be posted on July 3, at 2 PM and a private family burial will take place at Avon view Cemetery, Kempt Shore at a later date.
