Francis Edward Pedersen was born on February 11, 1931 on a farm west of Weeping Water, Nebraska and passed away at the Louisville Care Center on June 26, 2020 at the age of 89. He resided all of his life in rural Elmwood and Weeping Water until the last 4 years of his life which was spent at the Louisville Care Center.

Francis was the son of Peter and Mary Pedersen. He attended country school and then high school in Elmwood where he graduated in 1949. During his high school years his father was ill so Francis along with his mother took over the farming operation. His father passed away in the July after he graduated from high school leaving Francis to farm and take care of his mother until her death in 1986.

Francis and Delores Lutz Penke were married on January 31, 1987. Francis loved farming, gardening, growing flowers, playing golf, and playing cards. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge #125, the Elmwood Co-op Board, and the Weeping Water Rural Fire Board.

He is survived by nieces and nephews Marcia Nickels of Plattsmouth; Doris Hohman and husband Jim of Weeping Water; Dale Mogensen of Omaha; Mary Jane Garnett and husband Robert of Pittsburg, CA; Linda Koerselman and husband Mike of Fairfield, IA; and Gary Pedersen of Lincoln, step granddaughters Tiffany Clark, Stephanie Randall, and Autumn Marchard, numerous great nieces, great nephews and step great grandchildren. He is also survived by special friends Ken and Alice Lauritzen, Greg Vogt and family, and Don Mills and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Delores, brother William, sister Margeret Mogensen, infant sister Mary Louise, step-son Carl Penke, and step daughter-in-law Patricia Penke.

A graveside service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Oakwood Cemetery in Weeping Water with the Pastor Doug Olson officiating.

Pallbearers will be Michael and Kyle Mogensen, Bruce Hohman, Greg Vogt, Tyson Vogt, and Don Mills.

Visitation is Tuesday, June 30th from 1 to 8 p.m. at the Hammons Family Funeral Chapel Weeping Water

The family suggests memorials to the Louisville Care Center or the donor’s choice.
