Angelo “Angie” J. Massino, age 92 of Bethany Beach, DE formerly of Rockville, MD passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, March 6, 2017. He was born in Washington, D.C. on February 9, 1925 son of the late August Ralph Massino and Jane Catherine (Maggio) Massino. Angie attended St. John’s College High School in Washington, D.C. Mr. Massino proudly served his country from 1943 to 1946 in the United States Navy aboard the USS Bearss during WWII. After his discharge, Angie worked for the Immigration & Naturalization Service and the General Accounting Office before joining the fire department in 1950. He retired as Captain of Engine Company #5 in Washington, DC in January of 1975. Angie was a member of the Retired Fire Fighter’s Association, the St. Jude’s Holy Name Society, the Emerald Society and the Knights of Columbus. After moving to Bethany Beach, in October of 1996 Angie became a member of St. Ann’s Men’s Club and a member of the Mason Dixon VFW Post 7234 in Ocean View, DE. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. In addition to his parents, August R. and Jane C. Massino he was preceded in death by a brother, August R. Massino. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Carolyn F. (Cappello) Massino; a son, Anthony “Tony” J. (Linda J.) Massino; two daughters, Mary C. (Joseph N.) Platt and Diana M. Massino (formerly Temerario). He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Dominick (Sara) Massino, Andrew Massino, Angela Massino, Christina Massino, Greg Kraft, Sarah Platt Fuchs, John Platt, Maria Temerario and Carolina Temerario and six great grandchildren, Isabella Massino, Madeline Kadis, Kuiper Massino, Vega Massino, Grace Haymond and Gabriella Haymond. A visitation will be held from 4-7 PM on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Rd., Ocean View, DE 19970. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, March 13, 2017 at 12 noon at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, DE 19930. Interment with military honors will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro, DE.
