Larry Douglas Heaton, age 61 of Harrogate, TN went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday August 30, 2016. He was born in Middlesboro, KY on November 20, 1954. He graduated from Middlesboro High School in 1972. Received his Bachelors Degree from Cumberland College in 1976 and his Masters degree from Lincoln Memorial University in 1986. He retired from his career of teaching and pioneering the guidance program in the Claiborne County School System and Walter State Community College only when his health prevented him from continuing his work. He was a member of Greer's Chapel Baptist Church and had been an ordained minister since June 12, 1971. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend to all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Audrea Heaton of Middlesboro, KY; Beloved son-in-law, Ryan Jackie Mize of Harrogate, TN and infant grandson, Collin Dean Bray of Helton, KY. Survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Alma Goins Heaton of Harrogate, TN; daughter, Leah Heaton Mize of Harrogate, TN; daughter, Andrea Heaton Bray of Helton, KY and husband, Michael; brother, James Heaton of New Tazewell, TN and his wife, Linda; sister, Sandra Heaton Martin of Middlesboro, KY; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Viewing will be at Shumate Funeral Home in Middlesboro, KY on Friday, September 2 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral will be held at the same location Saturday, September 3 at 2 p.m. with burial following at Irish Memorial Gardens in Tazewell, TN. Ministers will be David Billingsley and David Bolton. Pallbearers will be Lee Billingsley, Chris Billingsley, Mike Slaven, Otis Jones, Nathan Waters, and Alan Barton. Honorary Pallbearers will be Men of Greer's Chapel Baptist Church and Ailordale Baptist Church. Singers will be Linda and Alan Barton and Mary Norton.
