Byron Curtis Amonette Obituary

Byron "Curtis" Amonette, 79, a long time resident of San Angelo passed away Thursday, June 25, 2020 in Stafford, Tx. Visitation will be from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm in San Angelo on Tuesday, June 30, at Shaffer Funeral Home, 1939 Sherwood Way; and graveside service at 2:00 pm in Belvedere Memorial Park, 3504 Arden Rd. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/ Sherwood Way. He was born May 6, 1941, in Iraan, Tx. After serving in the Army, he worked in Merced, California. When he came back to Texas he worked in the oil and gas industry. Later, he went back to school and got a nursing degree which led to working in the Texas Department of Corrections in West Texas. After that, he retired at Concho Manor in San Angelo. Throughout his life, he was a gun enthusiast, enjoying deer hunting and even making his own bullets. He also loved to socialize with friends and family and a good sense of humor was very important to him. Curtis was preceded in death by his brother, Butch Amonette; and sister-in-law, Brenda. Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Thorson and husband Phil; a son, John Amonette and wife JoAnn; a sister, Ginny Kinnard and husband J.R.; three granddaughters; one grandson; four great-grandsons; and one great-granddaughter.
