Bertie Harris Archer

Bertie Harris Archer, 97 of Portsmouth, VA, passed away on December 6, 2015, peacefully in her sleep. Born in Kinston, NC in 1918, she was the daughter of the late Alonso Harris and Nancy Ann Wallace. Bertie worked as a beautician in Portsmouth, VA. Bertie was preceded by her late husband, William J. Archer Jr. (Hunky). Bertie was a wonderful woman, who lived a long life surrounded by lots of love each day. The joy of her life was her family; she leaves behind three children, Mary Jane Pope and her husband Max of Knoxville, TN, Linda A. Legum and her husband Larry L. Legum MD of Chesapeake, VA, William J. Archer III and his wife, Toni of Chesapeake, VA; eight grandchildren, Tammy Aldrup, Cindy Rub, Max Pope Jr., Aaron Legum, Brandin Bartok, Adam Legum, Chelsea Davenport, William Archer IV; fourteen great grandchildren, Megan MacDonald, Katie Aldrup, David Aldrup, Lilly Rub, Kristin Pope, Haley Pope, Ashton Legum, Andersen Legum, Payton Bartok, Atley Bartok, Avery Bartok, Porter Bartok, Lauren Legum, Laney Legum. A special, thanks is extended to Sylvia Vandwyne for compassionate loving care. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel on Friday, December 11, 2015, visitation will be 10 to 11 a.m.; with the memorial service to follow. Bertie will be laid to rest next her husband, at Meadow Brook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk, VA.
