Roger E. Straley, Jr. Virginia Beach, Virginia Obituary

Roger E. Straley, Jr.

Roger Ellis Straley, Jr., passed away at his home in Virginia Beach, VA, on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at the age of 54. Roger is survived by his wife Mary of 32 years. His daughter, Laura A. Burton, husband Brad, and his beloved Australian Shephard, Sadie Ann. His parents, Roger and Sylvia, his brother Shane, and sister Tonya. He will be lovingly remembered by his lifelong best friend Grandy "Mate" Buyrn, and by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, in-laws, and numerous friends. Roger (also known as "Chico" to many), graduated from Floyd E. Kellam High School in 1980. He married Mary Zimmerly on June 10, 1984. Chico retired from the City of Virginia Beach as an Automotive Technician. He worked hard his entire life to provide for his family, and was well known for being a "jack of all trades". Chico's greatest passions in life were hunting, fishing, and NASCAR. He shared his life doing what he loved most with his wife, family, and friends. He was a great mentor and was admired by many who shared the same interests. From the beginning of diagnosis, Chico and Mary stood united during this challenging time. As in all of his hunts, it took great knowledge, determination, and patience, which he used those very same skills to fight his battle with pancreatic cancer. Though he lost his battle in the end, we know in our hearts he WON! A service will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at Princess Anne Memorial Park, 1110 North Great Neck Road in Virginia Beach. A Celebration of Life will be held following the service in the home of Chico and Mary. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
