Iris Bishop Lakin

Iris Bishop Lakin, 100, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2016. She was predeceased by her husbands, Walter C. Lakin and Ralph Carlo; her sister, Harriet Vinton; her niece, Janice Perry; and her son, Gary E. Lakin. Iris was born March 17, 1916, in Baltimore, MD to Ira and Sophia Bishop. She moved to Portsmouth, VA where she began working for the Seaboard Airline Railway. She married Walter Lakin in 1939 in Portsmouth, VA where her son, Gary, was born. Later, she worked for the Portsmouth City Assessor as a secretary for many years. She and Walter moved to Venice, FL in 1974. Following Walter's death, she spent many years in Largo, FL where she met and married Ralph Carlo. In 2004, Iris moved to Virginia Beach, VA to be closer to her family. Iris enjoyed arts and crafts, animals, and being near the ocean. She was always a very active member of the churches she attended and had a close relationship with God. She loved being with people and showed her generosity in so very many ways. Iris is survived by Julia Lakin, daughter-in law; granddaughters, Kimberly Catt and Debora Ragland (Lee); great-grandson, Pierce Lakin Catt; step-great-granddaughters, Amanda Ragland and Leighann Ragland Luce; great-nephew, Robert Perry (Julie). A memorial service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel by Rev. Ernest L. Trueblood.
