Charles Patrick Pumphrey Obituary

Charles "Pat" Pumphrey, 65, of Knotts Island, NC, passed away on November 5, 2016. He was born in Washington DC to Charles Stanley and Mary Agnes Pumphrey. Pat attended Mt. Calvary Elementary, Suitland High School and went to the University of Maryland. He proudly served the US Army in Korea. Pat retired from the Virginia Beach Police Department as a decorated officer. Pat loved music and playing his guitar. He also enjoyed sailing, riding his motorcycle, surfing, camping, traveling the world, and recently traveling with Leigh Ann in his RV and spending time in the outdoors. Left to cherish his memory is his son, Charlie Pumphrey; sisters, Ann Tennison and Mary "Peggy" Chaney; nieces, Casey McClure (Jeff) and Christina Clark (Jon); nephews, Jason Tennison and Lon Chaney (Alyson); close friend, Leigh Ann Dowdy Conner; along with extended family and friends. Pat was very social and loved everyone. He was charming and could always make people feel good about themselves. He was very entertaining and loved to debate anyone on politics or religion and especially loved to play scrabble. He will be terribly missed by everyone that knew him; for Pat knew no strangers and considered everyone a friend. The greatest joy in Pat's life was his son Charlie, whom he called his hero. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, 2016, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Neck Chapel. The family will receive friends one prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Knotts Island Volunteer Fire Department. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.hollomon-brown.com
