Aldys Swenson, age 93, of Atwater, died Tuesday afternoon, December 3, at her home in Atwater.

 

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 7, at the United Methodist Church in Atwater.  Interment will be at Union Cemetery in Atwater.  Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday. December 6, at Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. 

 

Aldys Sarah Swenson was born March 9, 1926, in Buffalo Lake, Minnesota, the daughter of Earl and Ella (Ebent) Weispfenning.  She grew up in Buffalo Lake and later moved with her family to Cosmos.  Aldys was active with 4-H as a child.  She graduated from Buffalo Lake High School and then attended normal training in Litchfield.  She worked at the Cosmos Café and taught at a country school near Cosmos.  On October 27, 1960, she married Walter Swenson at the United Methodist Church in Cosmos.  They lived and farmed south of Atwater, where Aldys helped with the farm and also raised chickens.  Walter died in 1985 and in 1992, Aldys moved into Atwater.

 

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Atwater, where she had served as organist and as Sunday School superintendent.  She was also a member of Home Extension and the Garden Club since 1961.  She loved tending to her flower gardens and playing music.  She enjoyed decorating for holidays and visiting with family and friends.  She always had coffee and cookies ready for her visitors.  Aldys’ great love was her family and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

 

Aldys is survived by a son: Greg (and Kathy) Swenson of Atwater, MN; a daughter: Carleen Flettre of New Richmond, WI; four grandchildren: Alex Flettre, Nicole Swenson, Kimberly Swenson, and Christopher Flettre; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; Walter; a son-in-law: Kevin Flettre; a brother: Cyrus Weispfenning; and a sister: Earlene Schultz.
