Jamesetta Olivia Salter Obituary

Mrs. Jamesetta Summey Salter, daughter to the late James Summey and Olivia (Pruitt) Summey was born on July 24, 1938 in Hendersonville, NC. Jamesetta entered eternal rest on June 23, 2020 at her home in Durham, North Carolina.

A North Carolina native, Jamesetta was educated and graduated from the public schools in Henderson County.  After graduating from high school, Jamesetta attended Grady Nursing School in Atlanta, at that time, one of the premiere state and regional nursing programs in Georgia. Upon graduating with a Registered Nursing (RN) degree and earning her RN license, Jamesetta accepted a position at the Veteran Hospital in Hines, Illinois. Jamesetta carried out her duties of care with skill, empathy, and love.

Within two years of her tenure at the Veteran Hospital, Jamesetta met, and later married the love of her life, Mr. Willie Salter, Jr. a man who would treasure and adore her for the remaining fifty-eight years of her life. Their devoted union was blessed with their most cherished possession, their loving sons, Willie, III and Alonzo RaMez.

In addition to being a devoted mother and wife, Jamesetta was an equally dedicated professional, carving out two distinguished careers, first as a practicing RN and later training other nurses to bring the same skill and acumen to their practice as she had done in her own for countless years. Jamesetta was a skillful and talented health care provider. She worked many years as a nurse and spent the last 20+ years as a Nursing Training Specialist for Blue Cross and Blue Shield. She brought the same insight, care, and professionalism to her work training while overseeing the training of the nursing workforce.

Believing in the strength of community, Jamesetta did not hesitate to reach out to others. She understood the value of friendship and fellowship. She was affiliated with several organizations:   ZAFA Court #41 Daughters, Golden Circle and Eastern Star.  She served for many years on the usher board at Community Baptist Church for which she has been a member for 50 years. Jamesetta loved seeing new places and being with her family and friends. They will all mourn her passing but will rejoice and celebrate the beautiful life and legacy she built and leaves behind.

Jamesetta was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.  She was very much loved by all.  She leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Willie Salter, Jr. of the home, two sons, Willie Salter, III of Durham, NC and Alonzo RaMez Salter (Nicole) of Thomasville, NC., one sister, Gwendolyn Hostler of Polkton, NC. and four grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death, Mr. Albert Summey (Lavonne) of Baltimore, MD and a host of other relatives and friends.
