Mervin Richard Hall

Mervin Richard Hall Born Jan 18, 1932 to Stanley and Iva Hall in Oroville, CA. A Christian man, Merv went to be with the Lord on Father's Day, June 21, 2020. He attended schools in Dixon and Folsom and graduated from Folsom High School in 1950. In 1951 he joined the Navy. He served on the U.S.S. Manchester and the U.S.S. Sproston during the Korean War. Merv came to Auburn in 1959 and operated the Shell service station in lower town Auburn. In 1964 he started Hall's Towing. In 1968 he started the Auburn Tire Service. He belonged to community service clubs; The Exchange Club, Day Break Rotary, and was past president of Kiwanis. During the time his children were young, the family was involved in 4 - H, cows, sheep, and horses. Merv was honored by being named in the “100 Who Made A Difference " published by the Auburn Journal in 1988. He was on the original Auburn Airport Committee. He was a licensed pilot, and loved everything about aviation. His airport hangar became a social gathering place. Merv was involved in the Juvenile Justice System, and also the Auburn Chamber of Commerce. He was a lifetime member of the Auburn Navy League. Merv was one of the founding members of the Auburn Community Cancer Endowment Fund. He donated property to the City which was used as the parking lot in Old Town Auburn. He also donated a hangar for the Sheriff's helicopter and fixed wing aircraft. He was pre - deceased by his son Rick, his step - daughter Kori Messner, and brothers Larry and Stanley. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara, his daughter, Susie, his son, Ken (Monique), and step daughter, Kim Raymond. He leaves his sister, Phyllis, brother Jerry (Vy), and brother Ron (Pat). Also 9 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He faithfully attended Liberty Towers and Parkside Church of the Nazarene. He considered the congregation his extended family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him as husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor. Services will be held at Lassila Funeral Chapel on Thursday, July 2 at 10:00 am. Due to limited restrictions, no children please. Graveside service for immediate family only.
