Kara M. Ewing, 25, a resident of the Gaston community, died Friday evening, June 19, 2020 in Hillsboro. Private Cremation Rites were held at the Hoyt Crematory in Forest Grove. A Celebration of Life Service will be scheduled at a future date. KARA MICHELLE EWING was born July 24, 1994 in Hillsboro, Oregon, the daughter of Ronald Ewing and Debra J. Maki, She was raised in the Cherry Grove community and received her education in the Gaston community, having been a graduate of the Gaston High School Class of 2012. Upon her high school graduation, she attended Concorde College in Portland, having received her Veterinarian Assistant Certification. Among her special interests, Kara enjoyed music, being outdoors (including camping), singing karaoke, animals of all kinds and visiting the Oregon coast. She also had a special love for spending time with her son, Axel. She was known to be funny and sweet, with compassion for everyone she came across. Anyone who knew Kara is sure to remember her special laugh, it was truly the best in the Universe. She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Ewing; her grandmother, Jean Barnes and her partner, Zachary Michael “Zak” Benjamin. Survivors include her mother and her partner, Debra Maki and Carl Pugh, of Cherry Grove, Oregon; her son, Axel Kurtis Benjamin, of Hillsboro, Oregon; her grandparents, Neal Ewing, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Pat Ewing, of North Plains, Oregon and Blanche and Cliff Christensen, of Gaston, Oregon; her mother-in-law and partner, Jennifer Zdeb and James Cozart, of Hillsboro, Oregon; her sister-in-law and spouse, Tawni and David Boedeker, of Hillsboro, Oregon and her brother-in-law, Joshua Benjamin, of Hillsboro, Oregon. Also surviving are her aunts and uncles, Chuck Maki and Becky Olinger, of Cornelius, Oregon; Albert and Jamie Christensen, of Woodburn, Oregon; Jason and Billie Christensen, of Honolulu, Hawaii; Doug Ewing and Maureen Hampton, of Vancouver, Washington; Todd and Stephanie Ewing, of Hillsboro, Oregon; Karen Miller and Lenny Day, of Renton, Oregon and several cousins from several states. The family suggests that remembrances may be contributions to the AXEL KURTIS BENJAMIN TRUST FUND, for her son, c/o Tawni Boedeker, P.O. Box 533, Carlton, Oregon, 97111 in her memory.
