Michael Weikel Obituary

Michael Ray Weikel of Pottstown PA, son of Esther (Neith) Weikel and Morris Weikel, passed away in his home unexpectedly on June 6, 2020, at the age of 55. Mike was born on October 16, 1964 in Norristown PA, the town where he lived most of his life. He was the youngest of three children and loved playing “Indian” ball and “Run the Bases” with his brothers and friends in the alley growing up. He worked at Chef Francisco for most of his career making soup and other delicious foods for popular restaurants like Wawa and Friendly’s. Mike was a lifelong lover of animals and had three pet parrots and befriended all of the neighborhood squirrels, groundhogs, and other critters. Mike enjoyed traveling with his family and friends. He enjoyed annual family vacations down the shore, trips to Jamaica, and Caribbean cruises. Someone who loved to live on the edge, Mike recounted many stories of his experiences sky diving and skiing. Mike taught his nieces and nephews to ski, something they remember fondly to this day. Mike was also a lover of music and played guitar in many bands with his friends. In his younger years, Mike would enjoy drinking a few beers and letting his fingers flow on his guitar as he played famous Eric Clapton songs. Mike’s parents both predeceased him, as did his oldest brother Bob Weikel. Mike’s eldest bird Cookie also passed away with him. Mike is survived by many family members and friends including his “kids” (parrots) Elvis and “O”, his brother Kenny Weikel, sister-in-law Carmella Weikel, cousins Kim (Mark and Emma) Smondrowski, niece Jen (and Chip) McKenna, nephews Robert (and Tara) and Ryan Weikel, and many great nieces and nephews. Mike had a many years friendship with Amy Chrampanis. Many other people called Mike a friend, including his lifelong friends Jeff Delaney and Jay Winston. Services and interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, Memorial gift donations can be made to Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd, Norristown, PA 19401.
