Mrs. Elsie Bell Miller of Norfolk, Virginia was born on October 25,1931 to parents Carrie and Henry Backus. Elsie attended the Norfolk Public School System. She proudly attended Booker T. Washington High School in the 1940s. She met and married Richard Miller, Sr. in September 1951. She began to form and raise her own family consisting of eight boys and three girls. She enjoyed children whether her own or others. Elsie was one of the originals on her block, where she was also known as the neighborhood grandmother. She was fortunate to see her children, grandchildren and neighborhood children grow into adults. Elsie Miller was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking and baking for her family. She dedicated her life to raising two generations of children and grandchildren. On Saturday, June 13,2020 Elsie Bell Miller slipped into internal peace to be with her heavenly father. We truly will miss her! Yet we know, she is rejoicing with her loving husband, Richard Miller, Sr. and son, Johnnie Miller as well as her parents, Carrie and Henry Backus. Although our earthly mother is absent in body, she will continue to be present in spirit. Her legacy lives on with the ten children she left behind; seven sons, Richard, David, Robert, Ricky, Bobby, Linwood and Gerry Miller; three daughters, Ida Brickhouse, Neolus Williams and Elsie Bell. In addition to biological children she leaves behind several daughters-in-law, Rosetta, Dale, Crystal, Beth and Sandy Miller and three sons-in-law, Ricardo Brickhouse, Dewayne Bell and Michael Williams; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and other close friends and family.
