Jerry Ruble Roberts

Jerry Ruble Roberts, Jr., 68, of Battle Creek, passed away June 6, 2020 at Glenn Arbor Hospice Residence. He was born July 31, 1951, in Chicago, IL the son of Jerry R. Roberts, Sr. and Della Lee (Dowdy) Roberts. Jerry attended Battle Creek Public Schools and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1969. While in high school he played basketball for the Bearcats and was co-captain of the varsity basketball team. Jerry attended Western Michigan University where he received the MLK scholarship. He was employed by Ralston Foods, retiring after more than 20 years of service. He was a member of Mt. Zion AME Church. Jerry sang in the men’s church choir and was a faithful member of Bible study. He enjoyed music, especially jazz, and loved to play his guitars and flute. Jerry liked painting abstract art. An avid Detroit sports fan, he loved watching the Pistons, Lions, and Tigers play with annual trips to Chicago to catch a White Sox game with his son when they were playing the Tigers. Jerry was also a volunteer for the Battle Creek Central High School Alumni Association. He is survived by his son, Eric (Elsy) Roberts of Chicago, IL; brother, Darrell Roberts of Battle Creek; and nephews, Eugene Anthony (Stacy) Roberts, Darrell Banks, and Damien Banks all of Battle Creek. His memory will be cherished by his former spouse and close friend, Cheryl (Dickerson) Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gail (Roberts) Morford.
