William Thomas Daughtrey Obituary

William Thomas (Tom) Daughtrey, Jr. of Whispering Pines, NC passed away on June 6th, 2020. He was 82 years old.

Tom was born on April 20, 1938 in Norfolk, Va. to William Thomas Sr. and Virginia Daughtrey. He is survived by his wife Sallie, his two sons Bill (Wendy) and Clay (Jill), and 6 grandchildren.

He graduated from Chowan Jr. College in 1959 and the University of Richmond in 1962. On November 30, 1963 he married Sallie Ann Granger. His wife Sallie, his family and his many friends were his greatest joys in life. He coached many of his kid’s sports teams and never missed an event or milestone.

Tom worked for Texaco for over 25 years and lived in Medford, NJ during the majority of that time. He attended St. Peters Church, was a member of the Medford Lakes Country Club and developed many life-long friendships. An avid sportsman he frequently organized hunting and fishing trips.

Tom and Sallie retired to Whispering Pines, NC in 1999 where they became members of Emmanuel Episcopal Church and the Country Club of Whispering Pines. His time in Whispering Pines was always on the go with great friends who shared his love of travel, poker, golf and dine-arounds. His time with friends was a source of many hilarious stories! He especially enjoyed his time volunteering with the Sandhills Coalition.

A funeral and celebration of life will occur when we are allowed to gather again.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Emmanuel Episcopal Church - Alter Guild, 340 South Ridge St. Southern Pines, NC 28387.

Boles Funeral Home of Southern Pines is serving the family.
