Obituary

Phyllis Jane (Olsaver) Mercier

Burlington, VT

With Dad’s arms to welcome her, Mom waited until she said her final “I love you” to all of her cherished family and friends.  With her girls by her side, she peacefully made her heavenly journey home on June 8, 2020.  Mom’s final days were filled with sweet visits, numerous phone calls, love, laughter, memories and tears.

Known as the “Cookie Lady” at Burlington High School cafeteria for 25 years, she took pride and joy in baking for countless students.  She turned her baking experiences into dinner table math lessons and forged lifelong relationships with many coworkers and students.

Family was her world and favorite memories include Woodbury Road, Sunday afternoon drives and roadside picnics, summers at the Sandbar, camping and backyard pool parties.

Mom proudly served on the Eagles Club Auxiliary Board for many years and enjoyed several trips to Atlantic City!

Her final years were spent as a resident at Heineberg Senior Housing, where she forged new friendships and reconnected with many childhood friends, considering them her second family.  She enjoyed bingo, Thursday night dinners, evening chats in the common area, and visits by Elvis!

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donnie Mercier, Debby Dwyer, Darlene Mercier (Ron Rabideau), Diane Lestage, Donna Blanchette (Steve Griffin), Dale Lyman (Garret), and Dana Sicard (Ken).  She also leaves 14 grandchildren (Angie Gaboriault, Matt Mercier, Erin Burgo, Michael Dwyer, Troy McNamara, Hollie Deshaies, Katie Lovett, Chad Lestage, Tim Cote, Kelly Badore, Kayla Glerum, Keegan Lyman, Zach Liberty, Leah Liberty, 24 great grandchildren, and loving nephew Kevin (Garrreth) Parizo.

Phyllis was predeceased by her husband, Donald, parents, siblings, sons-in-law Dick Dwyer and David Blanchette, and grandson in law, Brent Deshaies.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, 1251 North Avenue, Burlington, VT, on June 13, 2020 at 10:00 AM.  Due to current circumstances, church seating is limited to family and invited guests. Additional seating will be available at the adjacent family center.

In lieu of flowers please perform a kind deed, that would make Mom smile.

“Okay, honey.  I’ll talk to you later then.  Love you, honey.  Bye-Bye”
