Verna Philomene Werbicki Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Verna Werbicki in her 90th year at the Gilbert Plains care home on Saturday, June 6, 2020. Verna is survived by her son Ken Werbicki and his spouse Germaine St. Arnault of Calgary, Alberta, including various blended family grandchildren and great grandchildren, plus countless nieces and nephews that have touched her life. Also surviving Verna are 3 sisters, Germaine of Pratt Kansas, Jacqualine of Morden, MB and Geraldine of Cobble Hill, BC.  She was pre-deceased by her son Terry Werbicki, former husband Leo Werbicki; 3 brothers, Bob, Bill and Norman; and 2 sisters, Genevieve and Gladys.

Verna was from a large family and grew up in the Dauphin area, married, and in the early years moved to Paris, ON to raise a family of 2 boys. She eventually moved back to Dauphin, MB over 30 years ago to retire and be with her friends and family in the area. Verna loved to be outdoors and lived on her 4 acre farm outside the city where you could often find her walking the 1 mile into town daily to have coffee with her close friends.

As a member of the Dauphin Legion for decades, Verna was involved in the colour guard for various marches and functions and was a team leader in the weekly meat draw at the facility, encouraging patrons to support ticket sales for fund raising, she was also an avid campaigner for the Canadian Cancer Society and blood donor functions in the area canvassing the residents of Dauphin by phone and door to door.

The Family would like to thank the many close friends and neighbors that have fulfilled her life and times in the Dauphin area, it was so very important to her. Special thanks to the staff at the Gilbert Plains Health Centre for the care that Verna received over the few years in the facility, #23 will never be the same!!

A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Dauphin, MB with internment in Paris, ON as current situations allow. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Dauphin Legion #20 or the Canadian Cancer Society.
