Mary Elvee Leath Obituary

Mary Elvee Mitchell Leath, known as “Ms. Elvee” by many, departed this earthly life on June 6, 2020 at Compass Healthcare and Rahab Hawfields in Mebane, NC. She attended the Orange County School System. She was the wife of the late Mr. Monroe Phillip Leath and daughter of the Mr. Fitzgerald Hugh “Fitch” Mitchell and Mary Magdaline Cooper Mitchell, both deceased. She was employed full time at Chock Full O’ Nuts in Mebane, NC and at Alamance Health Care in Burlington, NC until her retirement. Ms. Elvee loved to cook and loved having family and friends over for Sunday dinner.  She was known for her homemade biscuits and sweet potato pie.  

 

Elvee was a faithful and active member of Miles Chapel Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Ministry and the Abraham and Sarah Ministry.  She loved singing and would gather a group to sing in an instant. She will be cherished for the tender care she gave to many.  

She is survived by six children: James Mitchell (Margie) and Linda Diamond (Michael), both of Burlington, NC; Shelia Crowder of High Point, NC; Kelvin Mitchell (Tina) of Salisbury, NC; Mary Mitchell-Smith (Toney) of Matthews, NC; and Regina Mitchell of Charlotte, NC; a sister Ada Mitchell Lee and brother, Walter Lloyd Mitchell, both of Burlington, NC; 12 grandchildren (Lenneith Evans, Camie Shamale Mack, Antoinetta Johnson, Cynthia Ruffins, Antonio Mebane,  Charles Lamont Mack, Andrew Evans, Kelvin Maurice Mitchell, James Ernest Crowder, Matthew Mitchell Smith, and Dorian Michelle Mitchell; 13 great-grand children (Bryant Evans, Kadajah Johnson, Lenaira Ruffin, Emanuel Lawson, Lenaja Ruffin, Kadaja Dingman, Tiana Dingman, Dralen Evans, Janden Evans, Cameron Evans, Jordyn Mack, Jayda Mack, and Zara Michelle Mitchell); and 3 great-great grandchildren (Landon Evans, Carter Lee, Amaiyah Mae Dingman) and a host of nieces and nephews and other family members and friends.who will always lovingly remember her. 

In additional to her husband and parents, Elvee was preceded in death by a son, Charles Edward Mitchell; two sisters Alene Mitchell Daye and Vergie Mitchell Parker, one brother, James Marvin “Bo” Mitchell and two grandchildren, Cedric Justin Mitchell and Meghan Michelle Smith; son-in-law, James Ernest Crowder; two brother-in-laws, James Edward Lee and Theodore "Mutt" Parker.
