Regis C. Serene Regis C. Serene, 72, of Wilmington, left his family and friends, with his suit of integrity, to go to his heavenly home on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice & LifeCareCenter. He was a loyal, trustworthy, loving husband, father, brother and friend to all. Regis was born May 6, 1943 in Fresno, CA, son of the late Charles H. and Mary D. Serene. He graduated from Duquesne University in 1965, earning a Bachelors Degree in Business Management and was a member of the Sigma Chi Theta fraternity. He graduated from the U.S. Army Field Artillery Officer Candidate School in 1966, and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for meritorious service at Ft. Sill Artillery and Missile School. Regis retired from DuPont after working in Circleville OH, Wilmington DE, Wilmington NC, and Charlotte NC. He subsequently retired from Corning in Wilmington, NC. Then he was self-employed as an independent technology consultant. He was appointed two terms on the Governors Advisory Council on Literacy, and established North Carolina literacy definition and other initiatives. He served on the Business Advisory Board of Cape Fear Community College, and served on UNCWs Business Schools Technology Advisory Board and was a board member of NAMI Wilmington. Regis was an active member of Harbor United Methodist Church, Co-founder of the former Cape Fear Employees Credit Union, and served on client rights committee at Strategic Behavioral Health. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Lou Serene; daughters, Carrie L. Serene (Ronnie Watson) of Wilmington, and Nicole R. Serene of Wake Forest, NC; brother, Richard S. Serene (Stephanie); nephew, Matthew Serene; great-nephew, Sean Serene; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Carter (Larry) and Ruth Roese; brother-in-law, Harry Schwind (Nancy); and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm Friday, December 18, 2015, at Andrews Valley Chapel. A funeral service with military honors will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, December 19, 2015, at Harbor United Methodist Church with Rev. David Brownlee officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Regis memory may be made to Harbor United Methodist Church Food Pantry, NAMI Wilmington or the Prostate Cancer Foundation @ www.pcf.org/regisserene.
