Peter J. Davern

<p>Peter James Davern, 83, of Riverhead NY, formerly of Port Washington, past away on Friday, June 5th, 2020 of natural causes.</p> <p>The visitation will be held from 1:00 &ndash; 3:30 PM on Monday, June 8th, 2020 at Alexander - Rothwell Funeral Home, 6447 Route 25A, Wading River, NY 11792. Please be advised that there is to be no more than 10 people at a time in the viewing room due to the Corona Virus. The funeral service will be held at 3:30 provided by Father Bob Longobucco at the same location.</p> <p>Peter was raised in Washington Heights (NYC). He earned a baseball scholarship to a private catholic HS. He joined the US Marine Corp at the age of 17 and was Honorably Discharged. Peter was then employed by American Airlines where he met his wife, Amy Davern. In 1965 he joined the NYC Fire Dept. where worked for 31 years. He retired as a Lieutenant. He was also a member of the Port Washington volunteer Medics. Peter and Amy resided in Port Washington, NY from 1965 to 1996. They then moved to Baiting Hollow, NY and then on to Riverhead, NY. They enjoyed 20 winters in Florida (Hutchinson Island and Ft. Myers). Peter was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast.</p> <p>Peter was married to his beloved wife Amelia (&ldquo;Amy&rdquo;) Davern on September 16th, 1961; they were married for 58 years until has passing.</p> <p>Peter is survived by: Spouse, Amy, children, Scott (Kathleen) and James (Cassandra), grandchildren, Jack, Emma, Max, Kyle, Elisabeth, Catherine, twin brother, Charles (Joan), and sister, Joan Considine (Jack), and other family and friends.</p> <p>In lieu of flowers please send donations to New York City Firefighters Burn Center Foundation (nyffburncenter.com).</p>
