Marion Priscilla Chapman
Marion Priscilla (Burke) Chapman, 93, passed away suddenly on Monday, June 1, 2020 at Beverly Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years David G. Chapman. Marion was born in Gloucester, MA on February 22, 1927, daughter of the late Walter and Brenda Burke. Along with her parents and husband, Marion was predeceased by her siblings, Winifred, Anita, and Victor Bennett and Walter Burke. She was a graduate of Gloucester High School, class of 1945, and married her Navy sweetheart a year later. For 66 years, Marion and her husband raised their family in Essex. She was an avid reader and consummate hostess. Their home was a place for holiday and pool parties, as well as family gatherings. When their children were grown Marion and David took to the dance floor and spent many Friday and Saturday nights out dancing. Marion loved shopping and eating out at restaurants, especially ordering shrimp. She traveled throughout Europe, Scandinavia, all over the United States, and made many visits to Hawaii and Bermuda. She especially loved the many years spent wintering in Venice, Florida after her husband’s retirement. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During the last year of her life Marion lived at the Residence at Riverbend in Ipswich where she thoroughly enjoyed her time and made many wonderful new friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. Marion is survived by her three children David (Skip) Chapman of New Hampshire, Donna Chapman of North Carolina, and Paula (Chapman) Burr and her husband Kevin of Maryland. Loving grandmother to Tony (Katie) Chapman, Morgan (Nathan) Manzella, Colby Chapman, Courtney (Kyle) Shoemaker, Caitlin (Ryan) Selkis, and Patrick Burr. Great-grandchildren Max, Alex, Rhett, Boomer, Beckett, Nate, and Olivia always brought a smile to her face. Additionally, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Her niece Darlene Gayton was especially a great help to her in the last few years of her life. Due to health precautions a celebration of life will be held at a later time. Arrangements are by the Greely Funeral Home, 212 Washington St. Gloucester. Online condolences may be given at: www.greelyfuneralhome.comFebruary 22, 1927 - June 1, 202002/22/192706/01/2020
