Pauline “Polly” E. Lathan

Pauline "Polly" E. (Sylvia) Lathan, Age 88, passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2020. She was the loving wife of the late Arthur "Boxie" J. Lathan. Born in Newport, she was a daughter of the late John and Mary (Furtado) Sylvia. Mrs. Lathan worked as a bookkeeper for many businesses including Sylvias Garage, Jamestown Auto Parts, William K. Lovell, Co., and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). She was also employed by the Department of Children and Families as a caregiver. She served as a past president of the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion, Post 12 in North Kingstown. Mrs. Lathan was a communicant of St. Mark Church in Jamestown and a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Jamestown Holy Ghost Society and the Jamestown Senior Citizens Association. Mrs. Lathan was a true artist at heart and enjoyed painting beautiful lighthouse and ocean scenes. She had a beautiful voice and loved to sing. Mrs. Lathan was devoted to her faith and family, and will be remembered as a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by two beloved sons, Kevin J. Lathan (wife, Susan), and Dennis M. Lathan (wife, Robin), all of Jamestown; five grandchildren, Amanda Vietri, Sarah Messinger (husband, Todd), Shawn Lathan, Jenny Lathan, and DJ Lathan; three great-grandsons, Zachary, Jeremiah, and Joey; and a sister, Eileen "Judy" Stetson of West Warwick. Mrs. Lathan is also survived by many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Arthur, Mrs. Lathan was predeceased by her grandson, Brian Lathan; sister, Dorothy Brown; and brother, John Sylvia, Jr. A Private Visitation for family will be held from 10-11 AM on Saturday, June 6, 2020 in the FAGAN-QUINN Funeral Home, 825 Boston Neck Road, North Kingstown. A Private Funeral Liturgy will follow at 11 AM. Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery, Jamestown. Mrs. Lathan loved animals. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the RISPCA, 186 Admiral Street, Riverside, RI 02915 will be appreciated.
