Alfred Foell Obituary

Al Foell, age 86, of Casselton, ND, died Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at his home under the care of his loving family and Hospice.

Alfred Quinten Foell was born September 21, 1933 at Temvick, ND, the son of Quinten and Lillian (Agnew) Foell.  The family later moved to a farm between Hazelton & Moffit, ND, where he grew up and attended country school.

The US Army drafted Al in 1956 and he served stateside through 1958.  While he was on a leave, Al married Lenora Geneva Thomsen on May 14, 1957.   Following his discharge, they lived on his family farm, where he fulfilled his love of hunting and working with horses.  Al ran a backhoe business and farmed until 1984 when he began working for NDDOT in Casselton.  Al always took two weeks during the summer to take his kids on a camping trip across the US and Canada, and spent many a weekend taking them camping and boating along the Missouri river. Lenora and he loved to dance, spending many hours at the Eagles club in Bismarck with friends and family. In later years, they enjoyed watching Polka Party on TV.

After his retirement, he mowed the Casselton Airport in the summer and shared his love of remote control airplanes with anyone who showed an interest. Al was the President for many years of the RC club in Casselton.  Al and Lenora spent winters in Texas where they acted as Camp Hosts in the Texas State Parks system.   In Texas, he made many friends in remote control airplane clubs.

Al is survived by his wife Lenora; three children Teresa (Brian) Sonsthagen, Erdhard, MN, Avery (Sharon) Foell, West Fargo, ND,  Holly (Larry) Doll, Horace, ND; daughter-in-law Shelly Foell, Payson, AZ.  Eight grandchildren: Katie Sonsthagen, Ben (Terri) Sonsthagen, Cody Foell-Bader, Adam (KaSara) Foell, Amanda (Corey) Raethz, Samantha Foell, Casey (Jackie) Kroll, Jacklyn (Ian Anderson) Doll, and 14 great-grandchildren: Luna, Helen, Kendle-Judith, Ozzie, Caleb, Traycen, Emelyne, MacKenna, Oakley, Aydian, Isaac, Gavin, Lillian, and Evelyn; and 2 sisters Bonnie Olson, Spokane, WA, Jude Bullinger, Dickinson, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, one son Clayton and his brothers-in-law.

We will miss his great story telling ability and his sense of humor that he passed on to all of his kids.

Private Service:  2 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2020 at West Funeral Home Chapel, Casselton, ND.

Burial:   Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Driscoll, ND at a later date.
