Edna D. Curran
<p>Edna Dorothy (Randall) (Lesik) Curran passed away on May 27th, 2020 at Mont Marie in Holyoke, MA at the age of 96. Prior to this, she was living at Monastery Heights in the town of West Springfield where Edna had previously been a long time resident. Her family would like to send out their appreciation to the people at Morning Star, who were very kind and caring. Born in Westfield, MA on May 2, 1924, Edna was the beloved daughter of the late Nelson and Marion (Gamache) Randall. Growing up, she loved when her Dad, a train engineer, would blow his whistle for her to come and take a short ride with him. As children, she and her brother James, enjoyed visiting their Uncle Enos Woodard and Aunt Edna (her namesake) at the farm he managed in Shushan, NY where she liked spending time with the animals. Edna had attended Prospect Hill School in Westfield. She was a unique and strong-willed woman who left high school and decided to become a hairdresser. She graduated from the Burreby-Rose Beauty Academy Inc. in Springfield, in May of 1942. She later married Joseph Lesik and together they built two stock car tracks, the first being the Utica-Rome Speedway in 1961 and then the Albany-Saratoga, which opened in 1965. She and Joe were part of the Safety Committee for NASCAR with Bill France Sr. in the 1960’s and would attend numerous events and social affairs for the Daytona 500. She remained a lifelong NASCAR fan even after Joe’s passing in 1972. She then worked for Digital Equipment Corporation in Westfield as an inspector, where she met her second husband Joseph Curran, whom she married on June 17, 1976. Edna had a passion for covered bridges and would often search for them during her travels. She took her adventures internationally and in July of 1976 was photographed kissing the Blarney Stone in Cork, Ireland. Because of her great appreciation for nature and the changing seasons of New England, Edna and her husband would take motorcycle rides up to Vermont. They enjoyed camping in their trailer and spending much of their time together until his passing in 1992. Edna was a member of the Westfield Pistol and Revolver Club Inc. where she would go shooting with her brother. She was a devoted member of the West Springfield Covenant Church. She loved swimming and exercising well into her 80s, and was always on the lookout for the next tag sale. Edna also had a great affection for all animals and had many cats and dogs. She even cared for those she couldn’t keep, like her pet squirrel Shakey, and her pet raccoon, which she donated to Look Park. Her memory will be cherished by her nephews Christopher (Jacquelyn) Randall of Cove City, NC; Gary (Eileen) Randall of Boise, ID; Paul (Dolores) Randall of Maineville, OH; niece April (Randall) (Mark) Bellucci of Chicopee, MA, as well as many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and two loving husbands, Edna was predeceased by her brother, James Randall and his wife Georgia (Anastos) Randall of Feeding Hills, MA, and nephew James Mark Randall. Her funeral service will be private and all arrangements are entrusted to Toomey-O'Brien Funeral Home in West Springfield.
