Joseph Nicholas Boudreau

It is with sadness, that we announce the passing of Joseph Nicholas Boudreau of Alderney Point, that occurred at the Strait Richmond Hospital in Evanston on June 1, 2020, at the age of 83 years. Born January 28, 1937, in Petit de Grat, he was the son of the late Albany and Clemence (Samson) Boudreau.

He was always surrounded with love from his devoted children, sons Chet (Denise), Halifax, Weldon (Ramona), St. Margaret’s Bay,; daughters Cynthia Landry (Marcel), Louisdale, Judy Fougere (Norman), Arichat, and his seven grandchildren, Garrett, Craig, Jennifer, Nylan, Jenna, Jayden, Josée; great-granddaughters Sadie, Ida, Sunnie and Cohyn; sisters, Wanita Martell, Arichat, Doris Martell, Samson’s Cove, Merina Heudes and Violet Richard, Alderney Point. He is also survived by many, nieces, nephews and family members.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by his loving wife Berthilda; brothers Sanford and Walter; sister Gladys Landry and two siblings in infancy.

Nicholas was a very proud ambitious fisherman from a very young age who was known for his strong stature to his community friends. He took great pride in being a “Lobster Fisherman” owning the “Chief Pound Maker”. As a construction worker who worked at Nova Scotia Forest Industries Ltd. at Port Hawkesbury, the Steel Plant in Sydney, and the Heavy Water Plant in Glace Bay, he was a very proud member of the Labour International Union Local 1115, in Sydney, Nova Scotia.

He worked at Booth Fisheries for many years. Better known as” Cracker” by his friends, he loved to light up a dance floor with his unique step dancing. A skilled swimmer, Nicholas rescued swimmers and or fishermen who risked drowning. He made no secret of the fact that he was a proud and strong supporter of the Liberal Party loving the senior and junior Trudeau’s.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

During his many health challenges after his wife’s passing in 2012, Nicholas found much comfort in the kindness and care provided by Dr. DeRoche and staff at the doctor’s office in Arichat and the Island Pharmacy. During his final months of life, the staff and doctor at the Strait Richmond Hospital gave him the compassion and professional assistance that Nicholas so well deserved. His family want to thank Dr DeRoche, Dr Pluta and Dr Collins for their expertise, respecting Nicholas’ wishes in a most dignified way. His final hours were spent very comfortably and we wish to give an extra thank you to Dr Pluta for the high level of palliative care ordered and provided by very kind skilled professionals. Cremation has taken place. Due to the Covid-19 social distancing, funeral to celebrate the life of Nicholas will be held at a later date. A private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020 at the Star of the Sea Cemetery in Petit de Grat at 2 pm with Rev. Michel Exhalant presiding.
