Washington, on Monday, June 1, 2020, age 86, beloved wife for 65 years of Hobart E. "Hobie" Phillips, loving mother of Kevin (Sherri Johnson), Craig (Rosie) & Kathy Jo Roberts (Jim), sister of the late Thelma Street Benton, grandmother of Teegan (Rick Ness) Caitlin, Kelsey, Craig II (Emily), Olivia, Victoria, Wes & Dave (Dao), great-grandmother of Huxley and Elizabeth. Shirley spent her early years growing up in a loving family living on Mount Washington in Pittsburgh. She loved to ride the trolley‘s and take the incline to her job downtown. She eventually moved to Vestal New York with Hobie and began to raise her loving family. She instilled in her family the love of nature and the importance of living a kind, gentle, and godly life. She built many valued relationships with new friends along the way in New Castle, Beaver, Wheeling, Cambridge, and again back home in Pittsburgh. All the while, being the glue that kept her growing family together. Her love was shown in her chosen passion as a preschool teacher where she nurtured so many young lives. Shirley really loved nature and knew the name and song of every bird and flower. But her true passion was her grandchildren. She was such a wonderful and loving grandma and taught each one of them the true meaning of life, strength, and love. Grandma will be truly missed and will forever be in our hearts. Interment will be private.
