Nancy Faye Kirkman

Nancy Faye Hall Kirkman – Better known as Faye, Mom, Granny, or as Granny Faye to every kid she ever met. A kid at heart herself, she never met a child she didn’t love, and kids took immediately to her too. And baby dolls? – there had better be one under the Christmas tree for her -- every year! Preceded in death by her husband, Charles Elwood “Shorty” Kirkman, parents Belva & Eugene Hall, brothers Kenneth and Wade, sister June Cox, sons Jimmy and Jack (Tami), daughter Johanna, and grandson Eric Kirkman. She is survived by 1 sister, Sherron McNabb (John), sons Bennie (Phyllis) and Gene (Linda), and daughter Kim (Linda), 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and we don’t have fingers to count the nieces and nephews – all of them special to Faye. Faye was born in Leaksville, NC (re-named Eden), and moved to Amelia in 1951 with her husband as he looked for work at Camp Pickett. Her parents had moved to Amelia not long before. She was chiefly a mother and homemaker for her family of 6 children, but in later years became more involved in local activities. She was one of the first Sherriff’s Office dispatchers and worked there until retirement. She was instrumental in founding the Amelia Emergency Squad Auxiliary, and again later working to reactivate the Auxiliary in 1983. Forever the clown, she and friend Claire Whitaker used to dress as clowns for parades and County Fairs. She also acted in several plays presented by an Amelia community group. She took Advanced First Aid Classes and rode calls with the Amelia Emergency Squad until the state increased its training requirements to EMT. She was always ready to help someone in need, and inquiring about her friends when she couldn’t call or get out to see them. If anyone wants to remember Faye by memorial gift, the family suggests a donation to either the Amelia Emergency Squad, or to APAW (Amelia Patrons for Animal Welfare). Private services and burial will take place at Piedmont Baptist Cemtery. Please consider signing the register book on line in lieu of signing at the funeral home.
May 3, 1930 - June 1, 202005/03/193006/01/2020

Very sorry to read of Faye's passing. She and Shorty were quite a pair and did a lit for Amelia. My deepest condolences to her family.
