Roger Smith Obituary

Roger T. Smith of Beloit Ohio, 92, beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather was called home on May 31, 2020. He was born August 1, 1927, in Minerva Ohio, to Ralph and Erma (Taylor) Smith. He is survived by his sister Kathryn Sanor of Alliance and brother Robert of Beloit, children David (Jacquelyn) of Hanoverton, Carolyn (Lee) Gabric of Alliance, Douglas of Belfast, Northern Ireland, Daniel (Stephanie) of Ypsilanti, MI and Suzanne (Douglas) Drew of Munith, MI and nine grandchildren (Thomas, Colleen, Kyle, Kevin, Rachel, James, Hannah, Sarah, Peter) and three great grandchildren (Abby, Hazel, Taylor).

Roger served in the armed forces from 1945 to 1947 as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army and earned a bachelor's degree from Mt Union College in 1952. He taught mathematics for 39 years at Poland High School and continued to work evenings, weekends and summers on the family farm until he was 85. An elder at North Benton Presbyterian Church since he was 20, Roger used his gift of teaching to serve his fellow church members by teaching Adult Sunday School class for many years.

Roger was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Jean Marie (Kiser) Smith. Roger loved his wife and family faithfully and will be missed greatly by them. A private family burial service will be held at Hartzell Cemetery in North Benton with a public memorial service to be arranged at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Davis Haven at 19690 Middletown Rd., Beloit, Ohio 44609, his care home for the past 3-1/2 years, or to North Benton Presbyterian Church at 19070 North Benton West Rd., North Benton, Ohio 44449.
