Catherine Horton Brock

Catherine Horton Brock, age 81 of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2020. She was born January 4, 1939 in Carrollton, Georgia, daughter to the late Onis Jackson Horton and the late Alice Green Horton Moses. During her working career, she worked for WLBB Radio Station, West Georgia College, Carrollton City Kindergarten, Congressman Newt Gingrich, Congressman Bob Barr, the Social Security Administration and for the Board of Elections. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she taught preschool Sunday school for many years and served in the kitchen providing snacks during VBS. She loved flowers and gardening, reading, painting watercolor, and enjoyed finding and purchasing antiques such as hatpins, and porcelain buttons. She also was a very talented seamstress, and when her girls were younger, she made a lot of their clothes. She found pleasure in canning fresh vegetables from “Bub’s” garden and was famous with family and friends for her homemade sweet pickles. She also enjoyed cooking and baking. Her family fondly recalls her baking a pound cake every week. Catherine was a kind, witty, smart and creative woman. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed terribly by those dearest to her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded by brothers, Pete Horton and Ellis Horton; and a sister, Bonnie Brock. She is survived by her husband of 62 years on June 16, Ray T. “Bub” Brock of Carrollton; her daughters, Beverly Brock McGinnis (Joe) of Carrollton, Robin Brock Altman (Tony) of Carrollton; and Laci Brock Cowart (Henry) of Carrollton; sister, Hilda Watters of Montgomery, AL; three grandchildren, Justin Michael, Erin McGinnis, and Brock Campbell; and several nieces and nephews. Graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, June 3, 2020 at 11:00 AM from Carrollton City Cemetery with Dr. Stephen Allen officiating. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Tony Altman, Roger Brock, Henry Cowart, James Horton, Joe McGinnis, Jr, and Justin Michael. The family will receive friends at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM.
