Betty Rose Bailey (Scala), 92, of Edgewater, Maryland peacefully walked into the loving arms of Jesus on May 29, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on December 24th, 1927 in Washington, DC, to the late Chester A. and Mary P. Scala. She was the second of five children, 1 older brother and 3 younger sisters. Betty attended Anacostia High School, then worked for the Navy Yard and the U.S. Census Bureau. When her brother returned from basic training, he brought home a friend, John Bailey. John and Betty corresponded during his deployment in WWII, and dated after the war was over. They were married on July 3, 1947 and had two daughters. They celebrated their silver anniversary one month before he passed away in 1972. Betty was a devoted daughter and cared for both her father and mother through difficult illnesses. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially around family meals and gatherings. In her later years, she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ, and was baptized on May 29, 2005. She was a long-time student at Bible Study Fellowship, and most recently attended Bethel Baptist Church in Glen Burnie. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, John Bailey; son-in-law, Bruce Masciarelli; and her sisters Joan Bolen, Rita Spears and June King. She is survived by her brother, George (Buddy) Scala of Rockville, MD; her daughter and son in law, Bonnie and Otis Kelly of Leesville, SC; her daughter, Carol Masciarelli and grandson, Anthony Masciarelli with whom she lived; and treasured caregivers, extended family and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 90 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, MD 21122 or Bethel Baptist Church, 416 Wellham Avenue, Glen Burnie, MD 21061. Burial will be private, and a Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
