Thomas J. 'Tanker Tom' Marmes, 73, of Merrill, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2020 while an inpatient at Ascension St. Clare’s Hospital, Weston. Tom was born December 16, 1946 in Antigo, Wisconsin son of the late Peter and Marie (Clay) Marmes. He married Sharon Erickson on September 14, 1985. She survives. Tom had been a welder at AGRA Construction, Merrill. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, 4 wheeling, and spending time with the grandkids. Tom was a champion cribbage player. Tom is survived by his wife Sharon Marmes, Merrill; two sons, Dan Marmes, Wausau, and Eric Salyers; three step children, Penny (Kip) Gryskiewicz, Bonnie Woller, and Scott (Pam) Breuning, all of Merrill; 14 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and five siblings, Larry Marmes, Pat Lee, John (Lynne) Marmes, and Jerry (Sue) Marmes all of Antigo, and Mary Kaye (Bob) Walter, Oshkosh. Besides his parents, Tom is preceded in death by two daughters, Baby Girl Marmes and Donna Whitzell; a granddaughter, Heather; a grandson, Noah; a step daughter, Connie Isaacson; a stepson in law, Michael Woller; and a brother, Peter Marmes. A Celebration of Life for Thomas J. Marmes will be held from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the Wild Badger Sports Bar, 1404 W. Main Street, Merrill.
