Colson Duane May Indianapolis, Indiana Obituary

Colson Duane May

Colson Duane May, 55, passed away May 28, 2020 at St Francis Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born April 21, 1965 at Reid Memorial Hospital in Richmond Indiana. Duane (Punky) even as an infant always had a smile on his face. My mother told me just the other day that Duane would follow me around like my shadow from the time he could walk & talk till the time he started Junior High School. She said I used to prank him all the time & each time he would fall for whatever gag I’d cooked up for him. I recall he never got mad at me not even one time. I honestly think he enjoyed the attention he got from it, lol. By the time Duane had settled into himself as a young man in his teens he’d made so many friends he could’ve started his own Friendship Organization. Duane’s Freshman, Sophomore & Senior years at North Central High School I believe we’re the best years of his life. He was very popular, involved in varsity sports, a girl magnet with his Eric Estrada looks but mainly Everyone that knew him absolutely adored him, even people that he briefly met, which was definitely a rarity, especially during a Coming of Age Era. I remember Duane dated several girls during high school & they were all very nice & even after he’d broken up with them practically all of them remained life long friends. One girl in particular Karen Ash dated Duane for many years & even after they split up as a couple she is still one of his very best female friends to this day. While dating Karen they both met a wonderful family “The Cutsingers” & in no time at all they became inseparable for more than 3 decades. Duane became best friends with Charlie Cutsinger & Karen became best friends with Candice (Candy) Cutsinger. The bond between them all is still Rock Solid to this very day. So strong that Karen & Duane stopped dating a few years later & Duane fell in love with Candy & she later became the love of his life & his wife with Karen’s blessings. Karen actually dated Charlie for a period of time & had Duane’s blessings. I call that an Incredibly strong bond of friends. He & Candy didn’t have any children prior to or while being married, but they had two dogs that they loved unconditionally & they called them their kids. Duane & I shared many of the same awesome friends our entire lives, far too many too mention. However, Our closest group of friends were, Danny Davis, Mike & Chuck Hoover, Brian & Terry Denton, Woody May, Timmy Earl, Terry Whitten, David Heffernan, Mark Fields, John & Jamie Smith, Charlie & David Cutsinger. We did everything together as a group all the time. We played basketball, football, tennis, softball, went to movies & drive ins & had numerous parties...We are all still very close dear friends to this very day. Duane’s favorite foods were Mexican & Italian. Duane loved his family & friends unselfishly & did everything he could to help them in their time of need no matter what that need consisted of. I am his older brother & I’ve looked up to, respected & admired him & all of his numerous good traits my entire life I still do Duane was a hard working Master Electrician. He & our youngest brother Jody & my eldest son Jon all worked together for years. Duane taught my son to be a better person today by teaching him so many of his personal life values. He also taught Jon how to set goals & achieve them. Jon had so much admiration for his uncle Duane that he awarded him the title of Godfather to his Children Ashlyn. I owe him so much gratitude that it would take me several average human life spans to even partially repay him for all he has given to myself, our family & our friends.
