Wilma Ione Nungesser Obituary

Wilma Ione Nungesser, age 95, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 28, 2020 at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina, MN.

Ione or “Honey” as she was known to family, was born on January 15, 1925 in Powers Lake, ND to Nathan Morton and Wilma (Grubb) Gibson.

After graduating from Powers Lake High School, she went on to graduate from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was there that she met the love of her life, Daniel Arnold Nungesser. They married on August 21, 1948. Together they had three children. Ione was a homemaker most of her married life and worked as a hostess at King Oscar’s restaurant in Richfield MN for a few years. Dan and Ione were very active in their churches over the years. She loved entertaining in their home, always having friends and family over for delicious meals and snacks or just dessert after church. As she got older, she loved volunteering at MN Teen Challenge. She was a volunteer there for 17 years. She really enjoyed meeting the different people and hearing about all of the wonderful things God had done in their lives. She loved grading their papers and hearing their intriguing stories.

She is survived by her son David (Barb) Nungesser, daughters Diane (John) King, and Becky (Louis) Dennard; grandchildren: Matt, Dan, Rachel, Tyler, April, and Delbert; two great-grandchildren: Trey and Kylie; her brother Douglas (Buv) Gibson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, brothers Ted and Les, and sister Lorraine (Dolly).

At this time we are not able to have a funeral service in the manner that she deserves. We will be waiting until we are able to have a proper memorial service at her church.  We do not have a time frame for that yet. If you would like to send a memorial, one of her favorite places was MN Teen Challenge. She believed so strongly in the work they were doing. She would love to give them her support at this time.
