Don Chesley, June 1, 1929 – April 12, 2020

Devoted to family, his religion, dedicated to his many jobs, hunting, fishing and his precious Lake Cabin, on April 12, Don passed away peacefully under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley at the ND Veterans Home in Lisbon.  Don is remembered by his family and friends for his dependability, generosity and fun-loving sense of humor.  Don enjoyed his many hunting and fishing expeditions with his children, son and daughter-in laws, grandchildren and many friends.

Don was born in Ransom County, ND on June 1, 1929 one of two children to Harold and Marion (Hoff) Chesley.  Growing up during the great depression Don learned lifelong lessons of being frugal, but having fun and loving life with his brother Lyle.  He joined the US Air Force in March of 1947, earned his GED and became a Corporal, he was also baptized as a Catholic during his service.

Following his discharge from the Air Force Don worked at a Meat Packing Plant in Fargo, ND and had other odd jobs until he went to work for the Soo Line Railroad in 1953 as a Fireman moving up to Engineer, he made the Railroad his life long career until he retired in 1991.  Don also owned and operated the Mobile Gas Station, Bulk Service and Laundromat in Enderlin, ND in the 60’s and early 70’s.  He also sold Amsoil, Watkins and Melaleuca.

Don Married Margaret (Peggy) Lemna, on April 14, 1951 in Enderlin, ND. Don and Peggy had 8 children together, Peggy passed away in September of 2019.

Don was a lifetime member of St. Patricks Catholic, Church, Enderlin VFW and the Am Vets.

Don is survived by his 8 Children, Susan (Bruce) Harris, Joe (Cyndee), David (Jan), Judy (Tim), Paul (Ellie), Steve (Candy), Renee (Paul) and Jane (Gary) Johnson, 26 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter, several nieces and nephews, and 10 sister-in-laws.

He was preceded in death by his Parents, Wife Peggy of 68 years, Brother Lyle and sister-in-law Darlene, several sister and brother-in-laws,

Don found joy at his lake cabin, where he spent his summers surrounded by family and friends.  He loved telling his grandchildren OOGA OOGA MOOSKA!

Face Coverings Are Encouraged For The Service.

Lunch will take place after the burial in Lisbon, at Baxter Park in Enderlin, ND at 1:00 p.m

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38015)..
