Agnes (Moniz) DaCosta, 99, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020, at Brandon Woods of Dartmouth. She was the wife of seventy-two years to the late Humberto J. DaCosta.
Agnes was born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Manuel and Maria (Dos Anjos) Moniz. Mrs. DaCosta was a communicant at the former Saint John the Baptist Church, in New Bedford. Agnes worked as a stitcher at Mar-Lil for thirty-two years, retiring in 1982. Mrs. DaCosta was a longtime member of the International Ladies Garment Worker’s Union and an avid Boston Red Sox fan. She cherished the time she spent with her family and friends. Mrs. DaCosta enjoyed a good Sudoku puzzle, reading and sewing.
Survivors are two daughters: Joyce A. (Mello) DaSilva of North Dartmouth; Joanne Barber and her husband Fred of Beverly; a son: James H. DaCosta and his wife Linda of Stoughton; seven grandchildren:Brian, Debra, Danielle, Nicole, Arielle, Eric and Jessica; eight great grandchildren: Angela, Ella, David, Esme, Declan, Brandon, Benjamin, and Audrey; one great-great granddaughter: Brielle; along with several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Cecelia Moniz, Mary Souza, Elsie Allison and Leonilda Mattos; mother in law of the late: John Mello Jr. and Donald DaSilva.
A Private Graveside Service will be held in Saint John Cemetery New Bedford. A Memorial Mass for Mrs. DaCosta will be announced once restrictions have been lifted.
