Mary Marie Peterson, was born May 31, 1941, to the late Melvin T. Sunkett, Sr., and Gladys Marie Finney Coon. She departed this life on May 27, 2020, at Beebe Healthcare, in Lewes, Delaware, after a short illness. Mary joined Trinity Faith Christian Center in 2006, and was faithful until her health declined. Mary was educated at Lewes Jr. High School and attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School. She lived in Lewes all of her adult life and was married to the late Eugene Peterson, Sr. Mary worked at various restaurants in the area as a short order cook. Her last employment was at Jerry’s Seafood Restaurant, 2nd Street, Lewes, Delaware. Mary’s health began to deteriorate in 2015, therefore she became a resident at Harbor Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, in Lewes, Delaware, for the last five years. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Peterson, Sr.; her sons, Eugene Peterson, Jr. and James A. Peterson; one sister, Allene Carter; and two brothers, Melvin T. Sunkett, Jr., and Lester S. Sunkett. Cherishing Mary’s fondest memories are three daughters, Earlene Colon of Salisbury, MD; Barbara Waples (Hurley) of Virginia Beach, VA and Matresa Peterson of Salisbury, MD; one son, Archie Peterson (Pearl Darlene) of Lincoln, DE; eight grandchildren, Erlinda Colon, Jermaine Griffin, Robert Colon, Jr., Jamarr Hurley Waples, Erik Singletary, James Peterson and Darius Bradley; fourteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Rev. Margaret Jones (Bishop Arthur D.) of Lewes, DE; one sister-in-law, Josephine Moore of Quitman, GA; one brother, Randolph Sunkett (Karen) of Milton, DE; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
