Betty Elliot Obituary

Betty Marie Elliot, age 79, of Glencoe and formerly of Renville, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2020.

A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at 11:00am, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM, at Christ Lutheran Church, 1820 Knight Ave in Glencoe.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Renville.

Betty Marie Elliot was born on October 30, 1940 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin to Warren Guy Brant, Sr. and Minnie Josephine (Thompson) Brant.  Betty’s parents were deaf so American Sign Language was her first language and was all that was spoken in her childhood home.  Betty went to stay with her grandmother before she started school so she could work on her speech.  Betty was an amazing caretaker for her parents and an advocate for the hearing impaired.

Betty lived the majority of her life in Renville, Minnesota.  She was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church, Renville.  She graduated from  Renville High School in 1958.  Betty met John Elliot while working at Warner Manufacturing in Sacred Heart.  John was the love of her life and they were married on August 6, 1960 at First Lutheran Church.  Together they had three children: Jodi, Paul and Juli.

Betty worked as the Deputy Clerk of Court in Renville County and then worked as a secretary at Renville High School where she retired in 1997.  She was a registered interpreter for the deaf and worked in legal and educational settings.  Betty was an assistant director for high school and community theater, assistant speech coach and she helped coach the FFA Parliamentary Procedure team.  She was active in church teaching Sunday School, directing dramas, singing in the choir and serving as deacon.  Betty enjoyed quilting, creating many beautiful treasures for her family to enjoy.  Betty loved roller-skating, dancing, playing softball, crocheting, shopping and spending time with family and friends.  We will miss the way she always made us laugh and told us how much we were loved.

Betty was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease on October 12, 2012 and fought with determination, humor and grace.  In 2013 Betty moved to Grand Meadows Senior Living and in June 2019 she moved to the memory care unit at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe.

Betty left this earthly life and entered glorious eternity with her Savior surrounded by her loving family.  Left to cherish her memory include her children: Jodi (Jon) Braband of Glencoe, Paul (Doreen) Elliot of Cary, NC and Juli (Mike) Standfuss of Northfield; seven grandchildren: Joy (Brent) Macheel of Mankato, Josh Braband of Eden Prairie, Brant (Katie) Elliot of Raleigh, NC, Brandon (Sara) Elliot of Raleigh, NC and Brock (fiancee Brooke) Elliot of Raleigh, NC, Abby (significant other Jake) Standfuss of Farmington and Alexa Standfuss of Northfield; great- granddaughters: Clara Elliot, Aurelia Macheel and a great- granddaughter due in March.  She is also survived by sisters-in-law: Joyce Wolff of Hector, Marlys Haug of Sacred Heart, Evelyn Elliot of Sacred Heart; brother-in–law and sister-in-law Arch and Donna Elliot of Lakeville and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, John, in 2010.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; and her brother Warren G. Brant, Jr.; cousin, who was more like a sister, Arlene Wangen; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Delores Brant, Ray and Mary Olafson, Delwood Wolff , Mornall Elliot, Orion Haug; nephews Tom Olafson and Les Wolff.

Memorials to the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Christ Lutheran Church of Glencoe.
