Ardis I. Kahmeyer, age 76, of Atwater, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Thursday evening, April 16, following a long battle with cancer.

 

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 18, at St. John Lutheran Church near Atwater.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the St. John Lutheran Church Basement Fund, Rice Hospice or Grove City C.A.R.E. are preferred.  Arrangements are with the Peterson Brothers Atwater Funeral Home.  www.petersonbrothers.com

 

Ardis Irene Kahmeyer was born on May 22, 1943, in Litchfield, Minnesota, the daughter of Bernard and Ruby (Stoffers) Kahmeyer.  She grew up in the Atwater community, was baptized on June 6, 1943 and confirmed on May 19, 1957 at St. John Lutheran Church.  Ardis graduated from Atwater High School in 1961 and assisted her parents with managing their café in Atwater.  She later worked at the Holiday Grocery and Tom Thumb stores in Atwater.  Ardis later worked as a day care provider and as a counselor in a group home for people with special needs.  At age 62, Ardis retired after many years of rewarding work.  She enjoyed collecting bunnies, bowling, raising flowers and traveling to Europe.

 

She is survived by two cousins, Audrey (and Merle) Lohre of Lamberton and Richard Miller of Willmar; and her godchildren, Julie Hoffmann of Atwater, Andrea Sweeney of Chanhassen, Damian Zaeska of Atwater and Ella Geis of Springfield, besides other relatives and friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents and several aunts and uncles.
