Mr. James Edward Floyd

Mr. James E. Floyd, 71, of New York transitioned from time to eternity on May 22, 2020.

James Floyd was born, May 24, 1948 to Artense Floyd and Leroy Floyd Sr., in Robeson County, North Carolina. He attended Rosenwald High School in Fairmont North Carolina. After graduating high school he joined the United States Army. James was deployed to Vietnam as the first battalion (airborne). He served under the 8th Calvary regiment. He then went on to work at Converse for 20 years. James later met and married Rhoda Floyd and made New York his home. He retired from the United States Postal Service. As a child, James got his nickname “pigtail” from wearing a ponytail that everyone thought resembled pigs tail. One of the most significant memories of James was his love for motorcycles. A man of few words, his infamous Harley Davidson wardrobe greeted the room before he spoke. James was a man’s man, there wasn’t much he couldn’t do. A jack of all trades, James flew planes, built houses, fixed cars and was classified as a marksman. A wild card, always down to fight and protect his family. His favorite quote was “To depend on others is to be disappointed,” yet he was the one who we all could depend on. On May 22, 2020 he ascended into the ever-loving arms of our Heavenly Father. James is predeceased by his wife; Rhoda, and siblings: Leroy Floyd, Jr., and Ruth Byrd. He is survived by his siblings Annie Pearl McCollum, Agnes Hubbard, and Galvin Floyd. He will be lovingly remembered by his children Lashawnda Mashburn, Brandon Floyd, Brian Floyd, Shirlee Williamson, Anthony Hall, and Preshod Cole. He also leaves memories to be cherished by his grandchildren: Maya, Tarene, Brian Jr, Brison, Ajani, Tristan, Trenton, Chaz, Shane, Malloy, Daniele, Egypt, Adonai, Noble, and 7 great- grandchildren. James also leaves a host of other family and friends who will honor his memory forever.
