Randy “Jake” Hal Marchant, 63, son of Rex & Mildred (Dygert) Marchant, was born October 21, 1956 in Guthrie Center, Iowa. He passed away Monday, May 25, 2020 at UnityPoint Health - Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Randy graduated from Panora-Linden High School in 1974. In 1974, Randy went to work for Sutherland Lumber and continued to work at Sutherlands until August of 1981. In 1977, he married Sharon Veeder at the Panora First Christian Church. They made their home in St. Joseph, MO where Randy worked as a Yard Foreman for Sutherland Lumber. They then moved to Pueblo, CO for a year, where he was an accountant for Sutherland Lumber. They moved to Panora to be closer to family and Randy went into law enforcement. He went to work as a police officer for the Stuart Police Dept in March of 1982 and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in July 1982. He then became the Stuart Police Chief following his graduation until August of 1985. He left to pursue the Deputy Sheriff position in Adair County, serving from August of 1985 until his retirement in April of 2008. During his time at Adair County, he served as Deputy, Chief Deputy, and in November of 2000 was elected Sheriff and again in November of 2004. Following his retirement, he was employed as a security guard for the Flint Hills Resources Ethanol Plant near Menlo for a year, then a security guard at Merle Hay Mall for less than a year and then finally working security at the State Capital up until his death. He loved being with his family, especially with his son and grandchildren and was a big Green Bay Packers fan. Randy is survived by his wife, Sharon of Stuart; son, Chad (Beth) Marchant of Lindstrom, MN; grandchildren, Christian and Kathryn; siblings, Rexanna (Mike) Ketelsen; Twila Jean (Charlie) Hanes; Cynthia (Darrell) Shook; Jeri (Tim) Gettler; Eric Marchant; Scott Marchant; and Joey (Lyn) Marchant; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A family service will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 from 10:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M with visitation following from 10:30 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. at the Twigg Funeral Home, Panora. We asked that you please ensure six feet of physical distance between each group or individual attending alone and if you are showing any signs or symptoms of the COV-19 virus or just aren’t feeling yourself, we ask you to please stay home. Cremation will follow the visitation. Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date.
