Cheryl Linn Carter Obituary

Cheryl Linn Carter was born May 25th, 1960 in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to Patricia (Hamling) Monthei and Ted Underwood Sr. She passed away Monday, May 25th, 2020 at her home in Tea, South Dakota. When Cheryl was young, her family lived in the southern states. At age 9, her parents put roots down in Panora, IA. Cheryl resided in Panora until 1980. On September 30th, 1977, Cheryl gave birth to her first child Joshua Underwood. On July 28th, 1981 Cheryl’s second child Jessica Carter was born. July 3rd, 1982 Cheryl married her partner of many years, Jerry Carter. They resided south of Dexter until her divorce in 1992 and began traveling for Warner Records if for only a short time. At which point she returned to the Guthrie County area. In 2006, Cheryl moved to Florida and began working for the USDA on June 20th, 2010. Her job with the USDA allowed her to travel and see many different areas of the United States. This is where she was also able to touch the lives of many different co-workers and friends for almost 10 years. She was finally able to move to South Dakota to be closer to her children, grandchildren, and family in 2016. Cheryl loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family. She took great pride in her career with USDA as she’d worked very hard to achieve a level that only a very select few have ever accomplished within the USDA. She enjoyed being a faithful Christian along with reading her bible almost every day, collecting Betty Boop and coca-cola memorabilia, watching her Iowa Hawkeyes play football and win, drinking her coffee all day… every day, anything to do with Ford, discussing and actively being involved with politics with every bit of passion possible, and treating her family including the guys to pedicures and manicures. She is preceded in death by her father Ted Underwood Sr., step-father Keith Monthei, and her sister Tandy (Underwood) Harris. She is survived by her mother Patricia Monthei, siblings: Lucky (Daisy) Underwood, Robin (Randy) Somers, Stacy Martines, and Wendy (Merle) Laswell, step-brothers Mike, Tony, Rich, and Dale Monthei, Children: Joshua Underwood, Jessica Carter, grandchildren: Josie (Austin) Cook, Patricia Underwood, Oakley Kooyman, great-grandchildren: Jalaya and Maeleigh Cook, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and last but not least her beloved dog Alex. Cheryl will be greatly missed by her family and friends.  Be still know that I am… Psalms 46:10
