Jack Walton Rutherford

On May 22, 2020, Jack Walton Rutherford passed away peacefully in the home he built in 1977. He was 80 years old. Born April 27, 1940 to Theordore Magnus Rutherford and Zona Ione (Schwab) Rutherford in Silverton, Jack was proud to be a third generation Oregonian. He graduated from Silverton Union High School in 1958 and enlisted in the U.S. Army Security Agency in 1959 as a Radio Direction Finder Operator. After spending a year in Korea, he volunteered for eassignment to Saigon, Vietnam, where he completed his enlistment in the fall of 1962. Upon release from the Army, Jack enrolled at Oregon State University, where he met his future wife, Elizabeth (Beth) Margaret Eastridge. Jack and Beth were married on March 4, 1967 in Salem, Oregon. Jack graduated from OSU with a Bachelor's degree in Business in June of that same year. After six years of working for the State of Oregon in various appraisel-related capacities, Jack opened his own property appraisal business in Salem in 1973. He eventually specialized in farm appraisels, becoming well known and respected for the quality of his work up until his retirement in 2011. Jack was joined in the business by his son, Ted, who took on residential appraisals, and by Beth, who oversaw all office duties and assisted in teh final production of appraisal reports. Upon retirement, Jack continued to enjoy his small acreage just outside of Turner, where he turned his lifelong affinity for storytelling into an autobiography, which he gifted to his children and grandchildren in 2011. Jack is survived by his wife; by his children, Ted (Trisha) Rutherford of Stayton, Eric (Anna) Rutherford of Salem, and Melissa (Dustin) Mitsch of Bend; and by his grandchildren, Maycie Mitsch, Lisel Rutherford and Liam Rutherford.
