Edward Nesbit
Edward Nesbit, Jr., was born on October 1, 1933, to Edward Nesbitt Sr., and Estelle Stewart Richardson Nesbitt, in Awendaw, Charleston, South Carolina. He was called home to be with the Lord on the evening of Friday, May 22, 2020. He was the second to the youngest of eight offspring (all deceased): William Henry “Rich” Richardson, Marguerite Richardson, Clemon Richardson, Herbert Nesbitt, Essie Nesbitt Washington (John Henry), Arthur “Sonny” Nesbitt (Ardella). A younger brother, David Nesbitt, died in a drowning incident early in life. Edward spent the early years of his life in Charleston, graduating from Laing H.S. in Mount Pleasant, S.C. in 1958, where he specialized in mason carpentry. PFC Nesbit served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged from the armed services in 1962, and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He later moved to Harlem, New York City, where he met and married the love of his life, Anita Louise Bowie. They married on April 12, 1963, and remained faithfully married. Edward and Anita raised a family of six children, Eugene, Caprice, Vincent, Terence, Vanessa and Wanda. He was brilliant with his hands: an inventor, innovatively problem-solving and fixing things. He spent many years in business as an independent contractor doing sheet metal work throughout the East and West Coasts in the states. Ed took great pride in his work and was respected in his trade, affording him the opportunity to work in the historic Twin Towers of New York. Brother Edward Nesbit was a Past Master in Samuel Lodge # 66 AF & AM New York jurisdiction. Reverend Edward Nesbit answered “God’s call on his life” and became an ordained minister in 1992, faithfully serving for many years in the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church (New York Conference) before relocating with his family to Delaware in 1993. Revered Nesbit was known for being a patient, kind and generous man, always ready to lend a helping hand and a listening ear to anyone who needed it. Ed was a humble, God-fearing, God-loving man. He believed that a simple life was the best way to serve God – not to get caught up in “things” but rather to strive to live a godly life by helping his fellow man or woman and by spreading the Gospel to men, women, boys and girls. Edward Nesbit was also endearingly known as “Dad/Daddy,” “GrandDad/GrandDude,” “Tiny,” “Eddie,” and “Fess.” He leaves to mourn and celebrate his life, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Eugene Nesbit of Delaware (Christian, Darnell/Rayan (3), and Essence (1)); Caprice D. Nesbit-Turane (“Angie”) of New York (Timothy (3)); V. Michael Nesbit/Delmina of Delaware ((Charlene (1), Michelle) Isaiah, and Joshua); Terence Nesbit of Illinois (LaToya); Vanessa D. Nesbit of Delaware, and Wanda F. Nesbit of Maryland. Also, two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Goodman of Texas, and Ardella Nesbitt of Texas; one brother-in-law: John Henry Washington of South Carolina; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, in-laws, and extended family. Finally, he leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, his loving wife of 57 years, Anita L. Nesbit. "Peace be still."October 1, 1933 - May 23, 202010/01/193305/23/2020
