Hilda Dagenhart Brower Obituary

Hilda Brower, 89, of Asheboro, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at Brookdale Senior Living in Lexington.

Private Graveside Services, 11:00 AM, Saturday, June 6th, at Parks Crossroads Christian Church, Ramseur. The family request to please be reminded the public should be six feet apart or stay in your car as required.

Officiating, Rev. Scott Stevenson.

Hilda was born on November 9, 1930 in Iredell County and was a longtime resident of Randolph County. She graduated from Sharon School Elementary and from Scotts High School where she was a cheerleader. Hilda went on to graduate from Davis Hospital School of Nursing and in 1951 joined General Electric as their Registered Occupational Nurse. She retired after 38 years with General Electric and Black & Decker. Hilda also worked as a volunteer nurse at Hospice of Randolph County and as Camp Nurse at Mundo Vista Camp in Asheboro for several years. During all these years she would open her home to her neighbors and friends to take blood pressure, give allergy shots and assist and help in any way she could. Hilda was a member of Franklinville Baptist Church where she was very active visiting shut-ins with Christian magazines and materials, as well as delivering food to the Christian United Outreach Center. She was a shining light and friend to her church family and  the entire community. After retirement, she traveled to many countries with a group called the Widows Might. Hilda continued to meet with her former co-workers weekly to monthly for breakfast or birthdays until just the last two years. She enrolled at RCC in pottery classes and set up a pottery wheel in her home where she created beautiful work. Hilda also enjoyed oil painting to express her creativity on canvass. Framed prints and note cards were created from her art work. Both pottery and artwork were used as gifts as an outreach to others. Hilda was a loving, caring and supportive mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and loved family, friends and flowers, but she loved her Lord and Savior most of all. Her heart was to care for others, to laugh and bring joy, and to share Christ throughout her life and her loving smile and strong witness will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Roscoe Brower, her parents, Lawrence and Clara Gant Dagenhart, sister, Estel Boggs, and brothers, Dave and Harold Dagenhart.

Survivors: daughter, Susan Brower Stevenson, and husband, Scott, of Hawaii, son, Mark Edward Brower, of South Carolina, sister, Mary D. Hooks, of Lexington, grandchildren, Christopher Stevenson, of Hawaii, Crystal Hosey, of Virginia, and Angela Stevenson, of Hawaii, great-grandchildren, Cora and Bonnie Hosey, Kai-Noah Carver.

The body will lie in state on Friday, June 5, 2020 from 10 AM to 5 PM at Loflin Funeral Home.
