Charles F. Slappy

Charles Franklin Slappy aka “Little Man” son of the late Will Slappy, Sr. and Addie Bell. Slappy was born on October 14, 1931, in Augusta, GA. He departed this life on May 25, 2020, in Newark, DE at his home. Charles F. Slappy served in the United States Army. He proudly served his country and can be remembered for sharing war stories and singing his cadences... Staff Sgt. Charles F. Slappy served with the Distinguish 101st Airborne Unit. He toured Vietnam and the Korean War. Throughout his tour of duty, he received many medals and awards, such as National Defense Service medal, Bronze Clasp Good Conduct Medal with1 loop, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal with 60 devices. We thank you Sir for your service. Charles Slappy did not stop there; he began a fruitful career with McGuire Air force Base and received many awards during his tenure, where he eventually retired. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Gladys “Doll” Mayer-Slappy; one brother, Will Slappy, Jr., sisters, Helen Jones and “Big Sis”; mother-in-law, Mable Dixon; brothers-in-law Harvey Campbell, Sr., Robin Dixon; sisters-in-law, Marguerite Dixon, Betty Dixon-Knox, and Marise Moore. He leaves to morn and cherish his memories, two daughters, Regina R. Slappy and Yvette M. Slappy both of Bowling Green, KY; one son, Charles F. Slappy, Jr. of Newark, DE (Elanda Warren-Slappy); stepdaughters, Lisa Mayer-Garrett of Bear, DE (Herchel Garrett) Kelly D. Mayer of New Castle, DE; one stepson, Jamie R. Mayer; sisters-in-law, Carlester Moore, Audery Smith (Harry Smith), Diane Moore-Ivey (David), Joanne Dixon, and Margie Dixon; brothers-in-law, Larry Moore and Winston Dixon. Grandchildren to include Cassandra Slappy and Dwan Slappy, both of Bowling Green, KY; Alexus Slappy-Golden of Florence, KY (Tyan Golden Sr. Husband), Robert “Bobby” Shobe, Jalalabad, Afghanistan, Marsaan R. Newman of New Castle, DE; Corey K. J. Mayer of Bear, DE, Dior Bryant of Wilmington, DE and LaNaya N Garrett of Bear, DE; great-grandchildren include Taylor Woods, Bailee Woods, Zoey McKoy, Jaymauri Duncan, Tyran Golden Jr., Jasmine Sydnor, Caine Sydnor, Jaylen Slappy, Marsaan “Mar Mar” Newman London J. Mayer, Rocklyn S. Mayer, Harley S. Mayer, Dior Bryant, Jr., Denim Rain Bryant and a host of nieces, nephew, cousins relatives and friends.
