Scott Gilmer Craddock Obituary

Scott Gilmer Craddock, 90, of Chapmanville, WV, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday May 26, 2020, at his home surrounded by his loved ones. Scott was born on August 17, 1929, at Henlawson, WV, and was a son of the late Jim and Lilly White Craddock.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 46 years, Nora Adams Craddock; four brothers, Moss Craddock, Jimmy Craddock, Charles “Chub” Craddock, and Lucian Craddock, and four sisters, Bonnie Whitman, Mildred Richards, Enola Baldwin, and Myrtle Stollings.

He is survived by his son, Brad (Karla) Craddock of Chapmanville, WV, and his dear companion of 16 years, Maria Barrett of Chapmanville, WV. Scott also had a very special little friend, Aubree Barrett, who was like a great-granddaughter, who called him “Papaw Scotty Cakes”.

Scott was a machinist, having retired as shop foreman from Craddock Machine. Scott was also an Army veteran, having served as a pole lineman in the Korean War. Scott was a Christian, and a member of the Morning Star Freewill Baptist Church. Scott was also a member of the Logan-Mingo Camp of The Gideons International. As a Gideon, Scott enjoyed going to the many churches throughout the area and sharing his beautiful testimony of God’s grace, mercies and blessings upon his life. Scott loved studying the Word of God, and his favorite scripture was Psalm 103: 1-3. Scott also loved spending time at Smith Mountain Lake and fishing. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. The family would like to sincerely thank Dignity Hospice of Chapmanville, and Boone Memorial Homecare. And a very special note of appreciation to Dignity Hospice Nurse, Caleb Blankenship, for his gentle care and assistance during our beloved Scott’s final hours of life.

Due to the CDC and the State's recent mandate on public gatherings, related to COVID-19, only 25 people or less are permitted at the services.

Services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 29, 2020 at the Morning Star Freewill Baptist Church with Ronnie Collins and Van Collins officiating. Burial will follow at the Adams Cemetery, Chapmanville, WV, with Military graveside rites.

Visitation will be on Friday, May 29, 2020 from 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at the church.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Freeman Funeral Home, Chapmanville, WV is in charge of the arrangements.
