George Milton Gibson Obituary

George Milton Gibson, 88, passed away on Friday, May 22, 2020, at Louisville VA Medical Center. He joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17 with his father’s permission. He served during the Korean War. He was a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member of the V.F.W. He retired from G.E. after 35 years of service and was the Chief Union Steward. He is survived by his daughters Georgetta Thompson (Kelly) of Jeffersonville, IN, Rhonda Gibson of Jeffersonville, IN, and Melissa Gibson of Jeffersonville, IN; step-son Kevin Davis of Scottsburg, IN; step-daughters Lisa Davis of Scottsburg, IN, and Penny Shields of Scottsburg, IN; grandchildren April, Michael, Matthew, George John, Casey, Shyan, and Serena; great-grandchildren Triston, Jackson, Tyler, Jamon, Big Aaliyah, little Aaliyah, Tavion, and Kyra; along with 5 brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife Norma Gibson; previous wife June Gibson; parents John Gibson and Rose Gibson; great-grandson Blake Hudgins; along with 10 brothers and sisters. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 29, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. at Walnut Ridge Cemetery. There will be a funeral procession from E.M. Coots’ Sons Funeral Home. Please arrive at the Funeral Home between 12:15 p.m. and 12:45 p.m. to be in the car lineup. The family respectfully asks that family and friends attending the service wear masks and maintain a social distance. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Wounded Warrior Project.
