Carolyn Pope Owosso, Michigan Obituary

Carolyn Pope

Carolyn Marie Pope passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2020, at The Meadows of Owosso, Michigan. Private family graveside services will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2020, at All Saints Cemetery in Waterford, Michigan. She was born October 10, 1942, in Flint, Mi, daughter of Emmett and Ruby (Needham) Pope. Carolyn's education began at Westwood Heights, Beecher High School, then she earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Ft. Wayne Bible College. Since she was an avid learner, she continued educating herself by studying and practicing nature photography (many of her nature photographs were published), trees and flowers, learning about American Indians as well as many other interests. Carolyn was a member of Mayfair Bible Church and the M.E.A. Some of her interests were hiking, cross country skiing, gathering Petoskey stones, collecting Indian relics, exploring and taking in the beauty of waterfalls, especially in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. She loved our National Parks and traveled there many times. Conquering rivers in her canoe was always a challenge she was up for. Many students remember her fondly as Miss Pope, and she had a huge heart for them and desire to help them learn. Over the years she taught 5th grade, reading, science, outdoor education, Sunday School and during the summer she helped with summer day camp programs at Mayfair Bible Church. She also directed a children's choir at church, and loved helping children learn to praise God with their voice. God designed her to teach, and she relished in His calling. With great joy she inspired many children and young people to learn and to be responsible adults. For many years in the fall, she shopped for and packed hundreds of Operation Christmas Child boxes for Samaritan's Purse. When her health prohibited her from continuing this it broke her heart. After retirement from teaching over 33 years at Westwood Heights Schools, she continued tutoring children in reading, building rockets, science and outdoor education. Two of her loves were her pups, Bailey and Sunshine, and they brought much joy and companionship to her life. Most of all, though, she loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and she loved to talk about Him. It is her longing that all who know her and love her will join her in heaven someday. Carolyn has left behind many who already miss her and cherish the memory of her love and her laugh. Some are her sister, Marilyn (Carl) Rosema, brothers Mark Pope, Steve (Brenda) Pope, 7 cherished and loved nieces and nephews, and 7 great nieces and nephews. She also leaves 2 special friends, Evelyn Conkright and Nannette Holmes. Carolyn was predeceased by her beloved parents. Since Carolyn had such a heart for children, she requested that memorial contributions be given to Operation Christmas Child by Samaritan's Purse. 'Precious in the sight of THE LORD is the death of His Saints' Ps. 116:15 'Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.' Matt. 5:4
